My experience as a psychologist for over 30 yrs practicing in Scottsdale, AZ, enables us to offer effective outpatient, individualized, psychological care. We treat a number of mental health disorders, and provide a neutral ground to individuals, families, and couples. Live or Teletherapy, wherever you are.
Our focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. We achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan.
My promise as a Scottsdale psychologist is to be there for you every step of your journey. My goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counseling and treatment, we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Therapy sessions are held with both couples and is a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationship.

Sessions
The Initial Intake will include gathering background and history , presenting problem and clarification of goals. $250
A standard psychotherapy session is 45 minutes and addresses the client issues and approach to providing strategies and solutions which is largely based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). $200
We offer comprehensive Neuropsychological testing for those concerned with possible dementia or memory declines and other cognitive issues or head injury. A comprehensive testing of cognitive function can take anywhere from 4-6 hours and if often spread between 2-3 sessions.

Chinese Proverb
Dr. David Helgeson is a clinical psychologist providing individual, couples, family, and group therapy, as well as psychological testing and neuropsychological evaluations for adolescents and adults.
He has been involved in sports since his high school days and was a track and field star in high school and college. Part of his practice now is in sports psychology, where he helps athletes overcome psychological barriers and uses sound psychological tools to enhance their performance so that they can be peak performers. He has worked successfully with athletes of all ages, from high school performers to professional athletes to retired NFL players.
Dr. Helgeson completed his graduate training at Fuller Theological Seminary, where he obtained both a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a Master’s in Theology. He was subsequently awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the National Institute of Mental Health in geriatric psychology and neuropsychology, where he taught and received additional training at the Andrus Gerontology Center and the University of Southern California.
As well, during his professional career, Dr. Helgeson previously focused a large part of his practice on serving the needs of older adults and their families. He is a highly valued and sought out speaker on a number of topics, but primarily those related to mental health, peak performance and aging.
In addition to his private practice, he is also an adjunct professor at Arizona State University, where he has taught various psychology classes, as well as classes on elder abuse, and on aging and mental health. He has previously served on the board of directors for the Phoenix chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, and continues to facilitate one of their monthly caregiver support groups, which he has done for over 30 years.
